Casa 559 Mérida, Yucatán MX
Previously a dentist’s office, this late 19th-century house located in Merida’s historic center had two well-proportioned front rooms with original beams. It had several additions obscuring the original house’s form. The new 1-bedroom addition is a concrete frame filled with glass, stone, stucco, and custom brick screens. Combined with the old house, the u-shaped addition creates three distinct courtyards with different landscape environments. These courtyards allow abundant airflow and relief from the tropical heat. The final jungle courtyard has a blushing pink guest house and pool. Featured in Dwell magazine March/April 2022.
